Motivation
Cotton simply does not cut it; Comfort counts. Blister prevention begins well before ever breaking in a new pair of heavies or pumps.
At 7, I first watched the grace and composure of Riverdance and St. Patrick’s Day performers, heard the power of dancers’ steps, and was instantly hooked. There is something transfixing to all Irish dancers about our sport, be it the palpable energy and excitement of hearing heavies crash as dancers stomp, twirl, kick and leap around the stage, or the brief settling of the audience before the music erupts. Our sport is demanding – both mentally as well as physically - requiring absolute dedication, and a focus of purpose.
Despite my love for Irish Dancing, I never loved the blisters. I don’t know a single dancer whose socks were not at one time or another soaked through with blood during grueling summer camps, nor a dancer who has yet to experience the excruciating stinging endured when hopping a quick shower with exposed blisters. How many times have I also been told from dance friends they were too afraid to get a pedicure for an event because of their blisters! Despite the expensive Band-Aids, Dr. Scholl’s Moleskin, Spenco 2ndSkin Squares, Eezeefit sport booties, friction block sticks and toe protectors I carefully applied on car rides to the studio, nothing helped.
As I saw it, marathon runners don’t hit the pavement without carefully engineered compression running socks, competitive skiers don’t hit the slopes without warm merino wool skiing socks, yet I practiced 7 days a week in cotton socks that made my feet bleed time and again.
My junior year of high school I designed, developed and carefully field tested a sport sock that holds up to the dual rigors of bone-jarring trebles and elegant leaps. I believe I have found a truly comfortable and breathable athletic sock for Irish dance.
Katie Luck LLC’s launch in 2014 set a new industry standard and we have not stopped innovating since. Curated from the finest blend of Coolmax sweat-wicking fibers available, Katie Luck socks make it possible to practice and compete each day in comfort – because our socks are the only socks that make a reel difference.
That is why I say these socks are developed by a dancer for dancers. I’ve put work into these socks so you can put more work into dancing – not foot care. I am proud to put my name on this line of athletic socks and hope you love them as much as I do.
